FSH24 - Future Smelter Hamburg 
  • Aurubis has successfully completed the largest maintenance shutdown in its history at the Hamburg site.
  • In addition to a boiler overhaul, extensive maintenance measures were carried out that would not normally be possible due to the continuous operation.
  • The aim was to ensure the availability of the plant and increase occupational safety within the smelter.

Innovative ASPA recycling plant in Belgium
  • Multimetal producer Aurubis celebrated the go-live of the ASPA plant at its site in Beerse (Belgium).
  • Fully developed in-house, this new state-of-the-art hydrometallurgical process, ASPA, is another prime example of Aurubis’ innovative strength.

Modernisation of electrolysis in Lünen
  • Aurubis Lünen commissioned the modernised electrolysis plant on Thursday, 6 June 2024.
  • The improved plant will provide around 10 % more production capacity and thus produce up to 210,000 tonnes of copper cathodes per year.

New sample preparation plant in Lünen
  • Aurubis has successfully commissioned a new facility at its Lünen plant that sets new standards in the recycling industry.
  • The sample preparation of input materials such as electronic scrap is now fully automated and utilises state-of-the-art robotics.
  • The innovative system efficiently and safely delivers reliable samples for the laboratories within just one hour during the sample preparation process.

Aurubis Richmond Update 2023
  • Aurubis invested around € 640 million to build the first secondary smelter for complex recycling material in North America.
  • Commissioning of the secondary smelter is planned for the second half of 2024.
  • An expansion of the plant is already under construction, meaning that Aurubis Richmond will process a total of 180,000 tonnes of complex recycling materials such as printed circuit boards and copper cables per year from 2026.

Batterierecycling at Aurubis
  • Battery recycling is becoming increasingly important due to the expansion of e-mobility and the rapidly increasing demand for lithium-ion batteries and raw materials for their production.
  • Since March 2022, a pilot plant has been in operation at the Hamburg site to extract valuable metals such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite from the so-called black mass with the highest yields.
